Post-science project investing.

We recognize that starting and building a company is hard. Startups by definition are outliers being built by unique collections of humans. We utilize our deep domain expertise to uniquely understand the problems of companies in the categories we care about. Pairing this with our experience working with deep technology, allows us to provide leverage in taking a company from pre, to post-commercialization and building engineering teams across both research and production-level eng.

David Hirsch

Prior to Co-founding Compound, David spent his entire career leading sales and BD teams for tech companies working alongside engineering and product functions to commercialize the company's products and spearheading monetization.

Google brought on David as their second employee in the New York headquarters in 2000 at a time when the company was doing just under $3M in revenue. David then spearheaded the company’s monetization strategy by co-founding Google’s Vertical Markets Group and wiring the regional sales team structure. For eight years, he oversaw cross-functional and cross-business responsibilities, all of which helped him to lead both Google’s culture committee and its recruiting initiative and subsequently hire many of the people who lead Google’s sales and business teams today.

Michael Dempsey

Michael became passionate about nascent technologies after noticing the unique lens it takes to invest into companies in these areas and being inspired by the products these startups were building.

At CB Insights, Michael dove into startups developing nascent technologies and coined this area “frontier technology”. After witnessing CBI grow from 12 to over 80 employees, he joined the investment team at Rothenberg Ventures where he led the team's investment theses in Robotics, Drones, Space, and Autonomous Vehicles. Prior to that, Michael invested in public and private markets at hedge fund Crane Partners, while also managing a small seed stage portfolio out of the fund. Michael grew up in Newton, MA and graduated from NYU with a degree in economics.

Prior to working at Compound, Nicole worked at a startup running experimental educational initiatives for cutting edge STEM domains (and researching cognitive architectures). She studied data science, and was accepted into INOVA’s personalized health accelerator to work on a machine learning tool that would diagnose renal cell carcinoma based on miRNA concentration and at Capterra, a Gartner company, studying the space of software & how to market it.

Tara has worked closely with many portfolio companies and is often deeply involved in many critical operational aspects of these entities, often acting as a "virtual CFO".

Previously, Tara was the Director of Financial Analysis and Controller of Comdata Processing Systems, a transaction processing company that was previously known as Tranvia where she held the same position before being acquired by Ceridian Corp.
